Infopark sets sights on massive investment

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KOCHI:

Infopark is looking at more than 16 million sq.ft. of built-up space, around 1.50 lakh jobs and an estimated investment of more than Rs. 6,000 crore in another five years.

These even otherwise enviable figures are for Infopark’s first and second phases alone not taking into account the potential growth of its two spokes at Cherthala and Koratty.

The entire parcel of 101 acres in its first phase has been allocated where there is already a built-up space of 4.5 million sq.ft., accounting for 200 companies and 24,000 employees. Construction of facilities by Tata Consultancy Services (13 lakh sq.ft.), Lulu (13 lakh sq.ft.), and Brigade Enterprises (7.50 lakh sq.ft.) are already under way while IBS (4 lakh sq.ft.) and Geon IT (2 lakh sq.ft.) are likely to launch constructions shortly.

“We are looking at creating a total of 70,000 job opportunities in another four years when the entire first phase would be completed,” Hrishikesh Nair, Infopark CEO, told The Hindu .

Another 8 million sq.ft. is likely to be developed in over 160 acres, generating around 80,000 jobs in the second phase, which was launched early last month. The construction of Infopark building of 4 lakh sq.ft. and Cognizant’s development of 1.3 million sq.ft. are already under way.

Infopark has already developed 2.40 lakh sq.ft. at its spoke in Cherthala, which at present houses 25 companies and around 300 employees. Of the 66 acres, 60 acres remain to be developed for which Infopark is acting as co-developer with the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL).

The construction of an IT block with 3.30 lakh sq.ft. on six acres by Infopark at Koratty is likely to be completed by this October, generating around 3,000 jobs. Meanwhile, Infopark has developed the ITES Habitat in Kaloor, which it had taken over from the Kerala State IT Mission into a Technology Business Centre. From 16,000 sq.ft. facility, Infopark has improved it into a 25,000-sq.ft. facility housing around 300 IT professionals.
