Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K.V. Thomas has said that the work of the Muttom yard in connection with Kochi Metro Rail will be completed within three months.
Stating that objections raised by the Navy and the Naval Armament Depot (NAD) in connection with readying land for the proposed yard had been resolved, Mr. Thomas said that both the agencies had extended full support for the timely completion of the yard.
A consensus on the issue evolved at a meeting held at Ernakulam guest house. About 45 acres are being readied for the yard.
It is estimated that 150-odd vehicles will ply to the spot daily once the construction work is launched. Any practical difficulties in this regard will be resolved through discussions between the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and NAD, Mr. Thomas said.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony had intervened in the issue during his recent visit to the city. He instructed Naval and NAD officials to resolve the difference through a meeting while entrusting Mr. Thomas with organising it. The matter had also attracted the intervention of Transport Minister Aryadan Mohammed.
Anwar Sadat, MLA; District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed, and representatives of Navy, NAD, and Kochi Metro Rail also attended the meeting.
