‘Hub-South station bus shuttle will be an alternative to autos’

June 15, 2013 03:23 am | Updated 03:23 am IST

The traffic authorities could look into the idea of running a shuttle bus service from Ernakulam South Railway Station to the Vyttila Mobility Hub at 15-20 minutes interval. This will be of great help for many who have to depend on prepaid autos to travel from the Ernakulam South Railway Station to the Hub and vice versa.

--Mathew Jerome, Kochi

City Police Commissioner K.G James:

At the time of commissioning the Vyttila Mobility Hub, the traffic authorities had suggested to the RTA officials to explore the possibilities of starting mini bus services round the clock from the Hub to areas like Tripunithura, West Kochi, Edakochi and Panangad. The services can be run either by KSRTC or by the corporation. This is still under consideration of the Hub authorities and their decision in this matter is awaited.

The Ernakulam District Collector had recently said that steps will be taken to introduce a KSRTC bus service connecting the Agricultural Urban Whole Sale Market at Maradu. It will be a relief to the common people to access the market as many of them are at present depend on autorickshaws.

Tripunithura.

District Collector Sheikh Pareeth :

There is a proposal to operate a KSRTC bus service linking the Maradu Agricultural Urban Whole Market. This matter will be discussed with the RTA officials in the next meeting for getting the necessary approval.

There was a report in the media that wind energy project will be implemented in Kochi. The plan attains great significance in the present scenario of power shortage in the State. The alternative energy source like the wind energy will be ideal for Kerala and this can tide over the energy crisis if earnest efforts are being taken by the authorities concerned for early execution of the project.

--Bhavana Narayanan, Kadavanthra.

District Collector:

The micro wind energy project, developed by Biotech, Thiruvananthapuram, will be introduced in the city as a pilot project, for which an amount of Rs. 5 lakh has been allocated. The plan is to install the wind energy producing system on experimental basis at the walkway starting from near the BOT bridge at Wellingdon Island. The District Administration will organise an exhibition on wind energy equipment to make people aware about alternative energy source.
