Houses of arrested policemen searched

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kochi:

The Customs Department on Friday searched the houses of two sub-inspectors who were arrested on charge of facilitating gold smuggling through the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.

Customs Department officials inspected the houses of suspended sub-inspectors Manu E.V. and R. Krishna Kumar in Kollam. “We have seized cash that was concealed in the houses. Both houses were extremely well decorated with expensive household goods. We have also seized their laptops,” said an official.

The officials said they found evidence in the accused’s laptop to suggest that they might have facilitated gold smuggling.

Both officers, who were working in the Immigration wing of the airport, were detained following the arrest of a man named Ijaz who was caught while trying to smuggle gold through the airport.
