The Kerala High Court, on Thursday, adjourned to July 3 the hearing on a petition filed by Rajammal, mother of the solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan, seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered in connection with the death of his wife in 2006.
When the petition came up before Justice P. Bhavadasan, Special Government Pleader C. Rahim submitted that she would not be arrested till July 3. Rashmi, wife of Biju, was found dead in the bathroom of the house of the petitioner in February 2006.
In her petition, Rajammal, a retired headmistress, said she feared arrest as she had been arraigned as the second accused in the case. She said she had been falsely implicated and she was innocent.
The police were now trying to arrest her in a case registered seven years ago. She was now aged 65 and had various illnesses, even heart problems. The police had summoned her and interrogated her many times.
Rajammal and her son have been charged with offences under sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty); 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen an offender) of the Indian Penal Code. The court had earlier dismissed a petition by Rajammal complaining about police harassment in the light of a submission by the State government that it would seek her assistance if needed.
If they wanted more information, they would either summon her or approach her. Biju was arrested from Coimbatore on June 16 by a team from the Kerala Police.
Biju and his partner Saritha S. Nair are accused of duping persons who had invested in their solar energy projects.
