HC directive on cases against Idukki MP

April 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the investigation officer probing land grab cases against Idukki MP Joice George to file a detailed status report on the investigation.

Justice B. Kemal Pasha issued the directive when a writ petition filed by Mukesh of Udumbanchola came up for hearing.

The petitioner alleged that the MP and other accused had cheated the members of the scheduled caste community at Kattakkambal and Vattavada villages in Devikulam taluk and obtained large areas of their land utilising a power of attorney.

The judge pointed out that while disposing of an appeal against his earlier interim order, a Division Bench had not intervened with the order for a proper investigation into the case. Therefore, the investigation should go on under the supervision of the Idukki District Police Chief.

The appeal was filed by Georgy George, the MP’s brother, against the Single Bench order directing the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Munnar, to conduct the ongoing investigation in a fruitful manner and see that the culprits are booked.
