The hartal called by right wing organisations, including Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Hindu Aikya Vedi in the Thrikkakara municipality region in protest against Tuesday’s explosion passed off with a lone case of stone throwing.

A crude device had exploded near the Ayyappa Seva Sangham pavilion close to collectorate junction on Tuesday night.

Hartal supporters threw stone at a private bus at Chembumukku, shattering its windshield. Shops and establishments along the main roads didn’t open but those in the interior areas functioned as usual. District collectorate and Infopark functioned. Bus and other public transport system came to complete halt at least until afternoon.

Hindu organisations supporting the hartal laid siege to the Seaport-Airport Road during the day. The siege was called off at the request of the police to facilitate the movement of inter-district buses.
