It all worked according to God’s plan, said 30-year-old Manu, said to be the first hand transplant recipient in India. For, this Good Samaritan, hailing from Thodupuzha, had risked his life and fought anti-social elements harassing women passengers on a train. He was thrown out of the train and his badly injured palms had to be amputated.
On January 12, Manu found a saviour in 24-year-old Binoy from Varapuzha who was declared brain dead following a bike accident. Binoy’s family agreed to donate his organs, including his hands. “I can eat food and even write with my new hands, thanks to Binoy, his family members and the team of doctors who performed the 16-hour surgery,” Manu said.
