One case of H1N1 was confirmed in the district on Wednesday. The pregnant woman who is under scrutiny of the Community Health Centre, Vengola, is under treatment at a private hospital, said the Additional District Medical Officer, K. Suhitha.
The woman was flown in from Dubai on Monday for treatment. Dr. Suhitha said that the District Health Department has provided awareness and guidelines to medical professionals, who are likely to handle patients with highly contagious diseases like H1N1.
All hospitals, including private institutions, have been provided training and protocols to be followed in identifying the cases and treatment.
She said that the high risk group included pregnant women, diabetics and elderly with various disease complications.
Dr. Suhitha said that training has been conducted for personnel handling patients in the hospital — staff nurses, laboratory personnel, private medical reporting centres, medical officers and field staff have been equipped with skills to handle patients.
