Govt to sanction ₹7 crore to change old pipeline

West Kochi water supply augmentation commissioned

KOCHI: Water Resources Minister Mathew T. Thomas has said that the government will sanction ₹7.5 crore to replace the old pipeline from Perumannur to Thevara.

Speaking at a function to commission the West Kochi water supply augmentation that was completed in various phases to benefit 1.5 lakh people in Mattanchery and Fort Kochi, the Minister said ₹2.2 crore would also be provided for a new water supply pipeline via Mattanchery bridge.

The Minister said this in reply to the remarks of K.J. Maxy, MLA, on how old pipelines had been bursting every now and then.

Mr. Thomas said the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) had sanctioned the maximum amount of ₹1,737 crore for the implementation of water supply projects. The endeavour will be to provide water to more number of people, he added.

In anticipation of drought, water conservation practices will be put forward to evolve a culture. He said it was important that officials, people’s representatives, residents, and the government come together in completing some projects were delayed.

A. Shynamol, Managing Director, Kerala water Authority; Opposition leader in the Kochi Corporation K.J. Antony; KWA technical member T. Ravindran, and representatives of various political parties were present.
