Excise Minister K. Babu has said that there was no change in the government’s liquor policy. Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr. Babu said that in the changed circumstances the issue would be discussed in the Cabinet and the UDF government.
Legal and Taxes Secretaries and the Excise Commissioner will hold discussions with the Advocate General.
The government will ensure the rehabilitation of bar workers, the Minister said.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Babu had said that there was some confusion in the High Court Single Bench verdict of Thursday that allowed four star and heritage hotels also to operate bars in addition to five star hotels as permitted in the government’s liquor policy.
