The district development committee has asked the State government not to transfer doctors, nurses and other staff in government hospitals in view of the outbreak of fever epidemic in the district.
S. Sarma, MLA, moved a resolution at a meeting of the committee held here recently that also called for the appointment of more employees in places where fever has been reported.
Anwar Sadat, MLA, said that service of doctors should be ensured round-the-clock in all government hospitals and primary health centres in the district. The meeting demanded that the State government take over the Cooperative Medical College at Kalamassery. The meeting observed that the institution is in a sorry state owing to lack of funds and infrastructure and warned that it would deteriorate further if the government failed to intervene.
Mr. Sarma said that three out of the four nurses at the primary health centre in Mulavukad had been transferred leaving people with the service of only one doctor and a nurse.
Water flow in drains along the National Highway in Aluva remains blocked owing to the dumping of garbage. Mr. Sadat complained that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had repeatedly turned a blind eye to the issue.
Additional District Magistrate B. Ramachandran, who presided over the meeting, said that the difference in height between the highway and its side had led to the accident involving a tanker carrying methanol in Kalamassery on Thursday. This problem will be brought to the notice of the NHAI.
The PWD said that land acquisition to widen the Kumbalanghi Vazhi-Palluruthy Road is under progress. The proposal for the takeover of the Kumbalanghi-Ezhupunna Ferry Road by the PWD is under the consideration of the State government.
The Kerala Water Authority said that immediate steps will be taken to supply water to the Udayamperur region under the Kakkad drinking water project.
The principal agriculture officer said that draft data bank of paddy fields in all villages except Mulanthuruthy had been readied for publishing.
