Officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit at Cochin International Airport Limited at Nedumbaserry on Monday seized 3.18 kilograms of gold worth around ₹98 lakh in three separate cases.

In the first case, the sleuths seized gold from a Malappuram native who had landed here from Jeddah in the morning. During examination, the officials recovered two gold biscuits from his body, and gold shaped into wire rolls concealed inside the transformer of a speaker woofer system.

In another case, officials intercepted a passenger hailing from Bhatkal in Karanataka, who had landed here from Dubai, and seized four gold biscuits wrapped under his feet using adhesive tapes.

In the third case, the officials found a Palakkad native, who had landed here from Sharjah, carrying gold in granular form inside perfume bottles.

Two persons have been arrested in this connection and cases have been registered under the Customs Act 1961.
