A tiny State with a large, warm heart – it summarises whatever lures guests to Goa.
With the onset of the monsoon, there is a natural lull in arrival of tourists. Not to be let down, stakeholders in Goa’s tourism sector have come up with major discounts to woo travellers during the rains. Goa Tourism is organising events across the country to encourage those who relish the monsoon to visit the State. A road show was held in Kochi on Monday, where Goa’s art and culture were on show.
True to its ethos, the destination allows people to let their hair down. Contrary to popular view, it is not just beaches that the State has. And its beaches were often in the news for the wrong reasons.
“Yes, we have a 105-km coast line, but there is much more to savour in Goa – diverse culture, eco-tourism, pilgrim centres, trekking through forests, bird watching and adventure sports are just a few of the must-experience tourism products,” says Gavin Dias, deputy general manager of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
The State is not as westernised either as is often made out to be. Though the Portuguese ruled the State for a few centuries, there were Hindu and Muslim rulers too.
