The Muvattupuzha police have arrested a 20-year-old woman who allegedly assisted a youth in his attempt to abduct her classmate.

Raseena, a native of Kunnathunadu, was held by the police based on the victim’s statement that she had tricked her into getting into a car last Saturday. According to the police, the accused acted at the behest of main accused Dilshad, a native of Vettillappara.

She made the victim believe that her father was arrested by the police and that she would help her reach her house fast. Dilshad was waiting in a rented car outside the college and the two girls soon boarded the vehicle. However, when the car took a wrong turn at Kothamangalam and started proceeding in the Munnar direction, the girl sensed trouble and raised an alarm.

At this point of time, the driver of the car became suspicious of the act by the youth and stopped the car. Raseena then fled in a bike that followed the car while Dilshad too escaped from the scene. The car driver then contacted the girl’s relatives, who rushed to the spot and took her along with them. “Dilshad wanted to marry the girl but the girl’s family had rejected his proposal sometime back. The girl’s marriage was fixed a month ago. Dilshad, who was working in the Gulf, returned only two days ago and conspired to abduct the girl and marry her with the help of her classmate. For this, he handed over ₹35,000 to Rassena,” the police said.

Dilshad is still on the run.
