The windmill installed by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) at Marine Drive on July 5 was restored on Saturday. The arms of the Rs.3.90-lakh windmill came off due to a snag a day after it was inaugurated. “The shaft has been changed and the windmill can now withstand stronger winds. The company that installed the windmill will operate it for a couple of days before handing it over to the authority,” said GCDA chairman N. Venugopal.

The windmill is expected to generate 10.5 kilowatts of electricity daily and power 100 lights along the new Marine Drive walkway from its northern end up to Kinco jetty. The windmill was set up by United Electricals, Kollam.
