The main accused in the solar scam, Biju Radhakrishnan went to town with a recommendation letter purportedly issued by the Chief Minister’s office and duped many. But the probe team now finds that letter is leading their way to many such ‘forged’ letters.

The Special Investigation Team under Additional Director General of Police A. Hemachandran had arrested the proprietor of a computer graphics firm in the city after Biju told them that the letter used to con Sajjad P.M. of Perumbavoor was forged there. The team under K. Harikrishnan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Perumbavoor, arrested the owner of the firm, Frenny, and seized the computer.

However, Sajjad came out and told reporters that Biju had shown him a letter different from what the police had. Sources in the probe team said that now it had become clear that Biju forged many letters and the copy of the letter recovered from Frenny’s computer was used for duping Rasique Ali, a businessman in Thiruvananathpuram.

It is learnt that Frenny told the probe team that Biju had always been very cautious about not leaving behind or editing the documents he brought in his pen drive or detachable memory at his firm.

The letter used to dupe Rasique Ali was left behind in Frenny’s computer by mistake.

The SIT is now awaiting results from the forensic examination of the seized computer at the Forensic Science Laboratory.

In Sajjad’s case, Biju had only shown a copy of the letter, which said the proposed solar power project was being recommended to be included in Emerging Kerala. Sajjad was not given any copy of the letter before he invested Rs. 40 lakh in the scheme.

Sajjad approached Biju and Sarita Nair for the project following an advertisement that appeared in some newspapers about the solar projects.

Shalu booked

Perumbavoor police have slapped a fresh case against actress Shalu Menon, another accused in the case, for harbouring Biju Radhakrishnan and helping him scoot to Coimbatore while the hunt was on.

He drove away in the actor’s car and reportedly left the State with her mobile phone, according to police.
