French beans price cools off

May 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:12 am IST - KOCHI:

The price of French beans, which rose to a record Rs. 100 a kg in the retail market in the last week of April is now seen cooling, thanks to improved supplies.

Vegetable dealers said the beans season was just setting in and shortage of supplies from Ootty and Mettupalayam had caused the prices to rise in the Kerala market.

Figures from VFPCK said French beans was selling at Rs. 52 a kg in the retail market on Tuesday against the wholesale price of Rs. 45.

A vegetable seller said wholesale price of French beans had gone up to Rs. 80 a kg in the Ernakulam market last week. However, this week has seen price falling rapidly. He said the price was expected to move further down.
