Fishing boat hit by vessel off Ezhimala coast

A merchant vessel was reportedly involved in a collision with a fishing boat off the Ezhimala coast here on Friday, injuring three fishermen on board the boat.

The accident occurred 22 nautical miles off Ezhimala here at 5.30 p.m. on Friday. The merchant vessel bound for Karwar in Karnataka collided with the fishing boat, ‘Sania’, with eight men on board,

according to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) here on Saturday.

The vessel was identified as Lady Farhan. Three persons on board the fishing boat suffered injuries that were said to be not life threatening.

The release said the Director General of Shipping had been asked to investigate the incident when the vessel enters Karwar for its scheduled call at the port there. The fishing boat is safe, the release added.

The Payyannur police said they had not received any official information about the accident. According to the police, the fishermen on board the fishing boat were said to be from Kulachil in

Kollam district, while the boat was owned by a person at Munambam near Kochi.
