Firm partially kept away from Kochi metro work

Services of Soma Constructions have been partially terminated from the construction of the 1.10-km metro rail viaduct between Maharaja’s College Ground and Ernakulam Junction railway station. The DMRC took the decision after the civil construction firm sought 40 per cent hike in funds to build the viaduct, which was estimated to cost approximately Rs.120 crore three years ago. Soma had sought additional funds to execute the work, stating that the said land (Jos Junction-Ernakulam Junction railway station reach) for commencing construction was handed over to it 33 months later than scheduled. The DMRC decided on ‘partial offloading’ of the firm, as it was unwilling to revise the estimate.
