A fire broke out at the office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court at Kaloor here on Thursday, reportedly due to a fault in the electrical system.
The fire was reported in the complex that included the District Family Court and two courts that hear cases of the NIA and CBI.
A member of the court staff who was on night duty and police officers at the court complex reported the fire around 7.30 a.m. when they noticed smoke emanating from the power distribution box on the ground floor.
Officials opened the office of the NIA-I/CBI-II court to find one of the computers and a photocopy machine on fire. The desk on which the devices were kept also caught fire.
Documents safe
Officials said documents stored in the office were not destroyed.
The police and a team from the forensic department inspected the scene.
“It appears that the computer was not switched off the previous day. There was a power surge and the computer must have been gutted due to short circuit,” said an official.
The forensic department collected samples from the scene and sent them to the lab for testing to rule out sabotage.
The court functioned as usual on Thursday.
