10th edition of annual hacking and cybersecurity meet to get under way in city tomorrow

The 10th edition of the annual two-day hacking and cybersecurity meet, c0c0n X – 2017, aimed at providing a platform to discuss and share new information on cybercrime across the world, will get under way at Le Meridian on Friday.

It is being hosted by the Kerala Police in association with the Information Security Research Association - India Chapter and the POLCYB (The Society for the Policing of Cyberspace). Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecommunication, will inaugurate the conference on Friday at 10 a.m.

The latest edition will feature more than 60 sessions on four different tracks covering four security domains with expected participation from more than 10 countries. Police officers from all the States in India, senior officers from the National Investigation Agency, Central Bureau of Investigation, Intelligence Bureau, RAW, NCRB, BPR&D and CERT-In, will attend. Various technical, non-technical, legal and community events have also been planned.

The event is aimed at providing a platform to discuss, showcase, educate, understand, and spread awareness on the latest trends in information technology, cyber and hi-tech crime, and bringing together various corporate, government organisations, including various investigation agencies, academia, research organisations, and other industry leaders.

Alok Joshi, Chairman, National Technical Research Organisation, Prime Minister’s Office, will deliver the keynote address at the opening session. Ajeet Bajpai, Director General, National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC); S.D. Shibulal, co-founder, Infosys, will deliver special addresses.

The list of distinguished speakers includes Bessie Pang, Executive Director of POLYCB (Society for Policing the cyberspace, Canada); Betsy Broder, Counsel for International Consumer Protection at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission; Parry Aftab, a digital privacy/security lawyer and founder of Cybersafeyindia.org; Cecilia WALLIN, Criminal Intelligence Officer at INTERPOL Crimes against Children, who is the team leader for the team based in the Asian region; Lee Hwee Hsiung, Head of Department - Cyber Security Professional Development (CSPD), Malaysia; and Omar Mohammad Hasan Alood Al Teneiji, Lt. Colonel, RAK Police Headquarters, UAE.

The event will run in four parallel streams. Track one will be the Non Technical Track, and Track 2 – Financial and Banking, Track – 3 will be a purely Technical Track and Track 4 – Kid Glove. Elias George, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Limited, will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. Loknath Behera, State Police Chief and chairman of the organising committee, will preside over the closing events. Mr. Bajpai will deliver the valedictory address.
