Fisheries Minister S. Sarma has said that the government will provide fee concession for children of fish workers in educational institutions, including self-financing ones.
He was speaking after inaugurating a coastal development scheme at Kaipamangalam, near here, on Monday.
“Per capita income of fish workers in the State is much less than that of other sections. The government will ensure job security for them and ensure the welfare of the community,” the Minister said.
In all, 42 projects worth Rs.5 crore will be implemented for the empowerment of fishermen under the scheme.
Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran laid foundation stone for the primary health centre at Kurikuzhy that will be constructed under the scheme.

K.P. Dhanapalan, MP; K.V. Abdul Khader, MLA; district panchayat president Ambadi Venu; District Collector A.T. James; and others also spoke at the function.
