Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) has reached an agreement with Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s Kochi refinery for supply of sulphur, a key raw material for the fertilizer company. “The agreement is already operational and it is mutually beneficial for the two public sector entities,” said D. Nandakumar, FACT Director (Marketing).

He said FACT stood to gain substantially from the agreement for supply of the raw material from the neighbouring refinery. As per the agreement, the Kochi refinery will provide around 1,20,000 tonnes of sulphur per year. This is about 60% of the total sulphur requirement of FACT. It was expected that the refinery would be able to fully meet the sulphur requirement of FACT with the commissioning of the expanded refinery, said Mr. Nandakumar.

Meanwhile, FACT is in talks with Mumbai-based Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, a Mini Ratna company near Mumbai, for selling FACT’s major products in upcountry markets like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Nandakumar said the discussions had been taken up on an initiative by Mr. Lohani, who is also joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Fertilizers.

FACT has set a sales target of roughly ₹2,000 crore for the current financial year.
