Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu will hoist the National Flag during the district-level Republic Day celebrations to be held at Parade Ground at Ernakulam civil station here on Monday.
District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam will lead the formal proceedings that will begin at 8 a.m. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate government servants and the general public taking part in the celebration. Selected persons, including war widows and freedom fighters, will be honoured at the event.
The celebrations this year will see the participation of students from 23 schools across the district. The State Police, District Armed Reserve Police, Fire Force Navy and National Cadet Corps will participate in the Republic Day parade, in addition to Student Police Cadets and members of the Scouts and Guides and Red Cross.
Elected representatives from Ernakulam district, including MPs and MLAs, will also attend the event.
Six bands will perform in the parade, which will feature floats showcasing various themes.
On the occasion, the Minister will also unveil the Mahatma Gandhi statue installed on the civil station premises. The District Information Office will present a short play upholding the message of organ donation.
