District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla said on Sunday that steps would be taken to make Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESI) coverage compulsory for inter-State migrant workers in the district.

Interacting with migrant workers at a mass contact programme held at Perumbavoor on Sunday, he said drug addicts among workers would be identified with the help of non-governmental organisations. Besides, the district administration had plans to set up a de-addiction centre for them.

As many as 1,100 migrants took part in the programme. While 485 migrant workers applied for Aadhaar cards, 35 workers submitted pan card applications at the Akshaya counters arranged at the venue. Counters of various banks were set up to enable migrants to open accounts.

A medical camp was also organised for them by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
