A girl from Ernakulam district brought cheers to the entire State as she emerged national second-rank-holder in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class XII examination conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
A student of St. Patrick’s Academy at Angamaly here, Lakshmi Mohan won 99.5 per cent marks.
“She shared the second position at the national-level with three others,” Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary of the council, told The Hindu over telephone from New Delhi on Monday.
Lakshmi scored 100 per cent marks in Computer Science and Mathematics respectively; 99 marks each in Chemistry and Physics; and 98 in English to bag the top honours. “I did not imagine that I could be among the national toppers even though my Principal and teachers had expected it,” a beaming Lakshmi told The Hindu over phone from her residence in Aimury near Perumbavur.
Her phone has been ringing non-stop since the school authorities led by Principal Bro. Christopher Dawes broke the news about her national-level achievement.
Lakshmi achieved the feat without any additional coaching or tuition.
Meticulous planning and revisions helped her to excel in her studies. Computer Science is her passion and the young talent is now aspiring to pursue a B. Tech programme in the subject in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Lakshmi had also won 96 per cent in the Class X examination. Debating is her favourite hobby and the girl has won several prizes in the event.
The youngster’s father Mohankumar T. V is an employee of Cochin Port, and mother Manju Mohan a homemaker. Her brother Vishnu is pursuing her Bachelor programme in Computer Applications.
