Entries invited for organic farm awards

Entries have been invited for the Akshayasri award for the State's best organic farmers. The award, instituted by the Sarojini-Damodaran Foundation run by Infosys chief executive officer S.D. Shibulal, entails Rs.50,000 for the best organic farmer on the State-level and Rs.10,000 each for six district-level winners.

The last date to submit entries is September 25 and entries are invited from other States as well. Farmers from Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kannur can send entries for the district-level awards too. The entrant's complete address, telephone number, roadmap to his or her farm, for how long he or she has been engaged in organic farming, acreage of cultivation and details of crops have to be furnished in the entry. The award is intended for food crops.

Entrants from Alappuzha can send entries to K.V. Dayal, Srikovil, Muhamma P.O. Alappuzha (94464-69046). Those from Thrissur are to send entries to Kareem K. Puram, Puthenchira, Thrissur (94950-40513).

Entries from Palakkad are to be sent to Tony Thomas, Kishakkekara, Irumbakachola, Kanjirapuzha, Palakkad. (94470-58253). Entries from Kozhikode have to be sent to P.C. Sethumadhavan, Smrithi, Karayadu, Meppayyur, Kozhikode (94954-11675). Entrants from Malappuram can send their entries to Nargis Teacher, Poovanchira, Randathani, Malappuram (97456-20333) and those from Kannur can send their entries to V.C. Vijayan, Viyyamchira, Kannapuram, Mottammel, Kannur (0497-2862827).
