A sixth semester student at the Pulinkunnu Government Engineering College here was found hanging dead from the ceiling of a rented house near the college early on Wednesday.

According to the police, Jithin Gopi, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, was reportedly upset over his poor performance in the fifth semester examinations. He was in a depressed mood since Tuesday evening. One of his friends, who woke up around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday, found Jithin missing and the roommates, all of whom had together rented a house near the college, began searching for him. He was found hanging dead from the ceiling of the bathroom in the house.

Though he was immediately rushed to hospital, he was declared brought dead. The Pulinkunnu police, who have registered a case, suspect Jithin to have committed suicide due to depression. Any other possible reasons for the suicide were being probed. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
