KOCHI: Meenakshi B.S., a Class 8 student of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, and Drishya S., a student of Class 6 at V.N.S.S.S.N. Trusts Central School, Alappuzha, emerged winners in the senior and junior categories respectively in the keenly-fought city finals of ‘The Handwriting Wizards 2017’ contest organised by The Hindu In School and BIC Cello India at Abad Nucleus Mall at Maradu here on Saturday.
Anjana Raj, a Class 8 student of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, and Arundhathy A. of Class 7 at Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, won the second and third places respectively in the senior category. Anna Grace Ajith, a Class 5 student of Nava Nirman Public School, Vazhakkala, and Gowri Remjith of Class 6 at Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School, Thrissur, bagged the second and third positions respectively in the junior category.
Students of Classes 4 to 6 were part of the junior category, while those of classes 7 to 9 formed part of the senior category. Around 450 students from various schools attended the event that gave the young talents an opportunity to display their handwriting skills.
K. Unnikrishna Menon, noted handwriting analyst, and C.L. Jacob, former Associate Professor of English at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, were the judges. Sharing a few tips on how to improve one’s handwriting, Mr. Menon told students that the cross should come on top of the stem while one writes the small letter ‘t’. “While writing ‘i’, care should be taken to place the dot closer to the stem. The capital letter ‘I’ should be bigger than other capital letters,” he said. Prof. Jacob rated the overall performance of participants as ‘good’.
Participating as the chief guest, Praveenkumar K.B., area sales manager of Cello, urged students to be more active and enthusiastic. Raveendranath, super stockist, Cello, Kerala, presented trophies and certificates to winners in the senior category, while toppers in the junior category received prizes from Mr. Praveenkumar.
The event was presented by BIC Cello India. Abad Nucleus Mall was the venue partner. Njuze, a Nest Golden Valley product, was the beverage partner. Club Mahindra was the regional sponsor. The winners received trophies and certificates. N.V. Balamurali, Deputy Regional General Manager (Circulation), The Hindu , welcomed the gathering, while P.C. Muralidharan, Senior Regional Manager (Circulation) proposed the vote of thanks.
