EMC in campaign mode

April 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala Energy Management Centre (EMC), the State-designated agency working on energy efficiency, has launched a campaign across the State to make people aware of the need for optimum power use.

Director of the Centre K.M. Dharesan Unnithan says that FM radio is being used for the campaign. Besides, the EMC has distributed brochures on power use to all the 6,500 libraries in the State. People must be made aware of the seriousness of the situation just as experts are repeatedly emphasising the reality of climate change.

Mr. Unnithan feels that air-conditioners would be responsible for the rise in power demand in the State. However, it is matter of some relief that most of the air-conditioning machines are energy efficient and could work on inverters.

An official of Kerala State Electricity Board says there is no means of ascertaining the extent of increase in the use of air-conditioners in the State as power bills do not discriminate between domestic equipment.
