The State government on Tuesday informed the Kerala High Court that it was making all possible effort to expedite the land acquisition process for widening the national highways (NHs) to 45 metres.

In a statement, the government said it was the policy of the government to develop the NH 17 and the NH 47 with a Right of Way (RoW) of 45 metres. There was no intention on the part of the government to reduce the RoW.

The statement further said the NH 47 could be widened at three stretches - Walayar- Edappally, Cherthala-Kazhakuttam, and Kazhakuttam-Tamil Nadu border.

Land acquisition for the Walayar-Edappally stretch had been completed and the development work of the right of the way to 45 metres was completed from Edappally to Thrissur and the work was progressing on the remaining portion at a hectic pace. The notification for land acquisition for the Cherthala- Kazhakuttam stretch had got lapsed due to non-completion of the survey within a year.
