The proposed 3.76 km bypass starts from Palakkattuthazathu on the Aluva-Munnar Road and ends at Maruthu Junction.
Fixing of final alignment for the town bypass that will help ease the traffic problems in Perumbavoor has begun.
The proposed bypass starting from Palakkattuthazathu on the Aluva-Munnar Road and ending at the Maruthu Junction on the same road will run a length of 3.76 km. The bypass will bisect the Perumbavoor-Puthencruz Road and the M.C. Road. Laying of posts marking the alignment is being done now.
A meeting chaired by District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed recently decided to hasten the determination of the final alignment, survey, and land acquisition. MLAs Saju Paul and V.P. Sajeendran, and chairmen of municipal bodies also attended the meeting.
Procedures for the construction of the bypass were intensified after settling the case filed by a few landowners against land acquisition. The Construction Corporation has been entrusted with the work of the bypass while Perumbavoor- Sabari rail special tahsildar has been put in charge of land acquisition. Formalities for exempting the paddy fields and wetlands along the bypass route from the Kerala Conservation of the Paddy Land and Wetland Act would also be completed shortly. About 25 acres spread over Perumbavoor, Rayamangalam, Vengola, and Maramppilly villages would have to be acquired for the bypass. Since paddy fields and wetlands account for 90 per cent of the land, eviction would be minimal. The land identified is also devoid of places of worship, schools, and public enterprises. About ten culverts have also been proposed along the bypass.
Mr. Pareed said that survey will be completed within two weeks from the completion of determination of the alignment.
Majority of landowners are willing to handover the land as soon as the survey is completed, Mr. Saju Paul said. Urgency clause will be made applicable for acquisition, which will be taken up under the fast track method.
The bypass had been proposed with the financial assistance of the Kerala Road Fund.
