: The ducks found dead in Kalady were not because of the avian flu, said a report from the laboratory in Thiruvalla, where the samples collected were sent for examination.

The chief veterinary officer of the district P. Devarajan told The Hindu that the samples have been sent to the Southern Region Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Bangalore for final confirmation.

Meanwhile, a group of chicks from a farm in Puthenkurishu and a migratory bird were also found dead in the district.

However, Dr. Devarajan said that the 7-day-old broiler chicks had died due to a bacterial infection and had nothing to do with the avian flu. The death of the migratory bird at Choornikkara is also incidental and did not seem connected to avian flu. However, samples have been collected from the dead birds to rule out bird flu, he added.
