Kochi: The police team probing the seizure of 101LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps from two youths in Thrikkakara earlier this month will soon leave for Goa to trace the origin of the drug. Officials said the team would conduct investigations in Goa with the support of the local police there. This is crucial in identifying the rackets that supplied the drugs,” said a senior officer with the Kochi city police.
Investigations so far have revealed that the two youths, Jo Antony Jose and Christy Mathew, who had been arrested for peddling the contraband, were just carriers.
Earlier, the excise team in the city had seized psychotropic drugs worth ₹84 lakh last month and arrested a Goa native, who had been allegedly supplying party drugs to users in Kochi. “We are also examining the possible links between these two incidents as the contrabands in both the cases originated from the same location,” the officer said.
According to him, the ongoing investigation has its focus on tracing the Goan connection of the influx of synthetic drugs to the city.
Meanwhile, anti-narcotic officials pointed out that Kochi is becoming part of a blossoming scene involving affluent youngsters who take party drugs as a fashion statement. Based on the finding, they have also begun collecting inputs on youngsters frequently tripping to destinations like Goa and Bengaluru, purportedly to get linked up with dope dealers.
