The Fire and Rescue Services Department has finally recovered the body of a 38-year-old man who drowned during a snake boat race here in Konothupuzha on Monday.

The body of Saju, who drowned after a country boat capsized, was fished out late on Monday. According to fire personnel, the body got washed away due to strong undercurrents, and it was later recovered with the help of local residents.

According to the police, the incident happened around 5.30 p.m. when the country boat capsized after crossing the finishing line.

Following the accident, two Scuba units of the Fire and Rescue Services Department were pressed into service for the rescue operation. The regatta event was immediately stopped following the accident.
