It may sound incredulous. Mahatma Gandhi University has offered admission to a course that was stopped years ago by including it among courses under the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) for the new academic year. Many unsuspecting aspirants have gone on to opt for this now “defunct” B.Sc programme in Information Technology as their first choice.
This serious lapse on the part of the academic section of the varsity has cast shadows over the prospects of candidates who opted for this course purportedly being “offered” by an affiliated college at Puthuppally in Kottayam. The course was taken off from the list of academic programmes in the same year it was launched owing to poor response from aspirants.
Curiously, this glowing neglect is not confined to one course alone. The varsity has also placed a course in Business Management, which was stopped by a college earlier, among the courses available under the online option registration under CAP this year. A final picture on whether more such courses have been included in the list would be clear in the next few days.
Reliable sources told The Hindu on Wednesday that the CAP cell was waiting for a reply from the academic sector on how to resolve the deadlock. The confusion may even delay the publication of the first allotment list for admission to the undergraduate programmes.
