Minister for Transport Jose Thettayil said awareness programmes will be widely taken up as part of the Road Safety Scheme in order to bring down the accident rate in the State.

He was addressing the first press meet after assuming office at the Ernakulam Press Club here on Friday.

The model for finding revenue resources other than ticket collection (such as the one being implemented at Angamali) will be extended to other parts of the State. Similar projects will be taken up at Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Thiruvalla.

Steps will also be taken to facilitate e-payment in the Motor Vehicle Department, Mr. Thettayil said.
