The draw of lots to select the wards to be reserved for women, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in 14 block panchayats and four municipalities in the district would be held on August 30.

Since the delimitation of the district panchayat is yet to be undertaken, the reservation of wards would be held only later.

While the draw of lots to decide the wards reserved for women in Kalamassery, Aluva, Angamaly, Paravur, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, and Perumbavur municipalities was held in July, the reservation for the newly formed municipalities of Thrikkakkara, Maradu, and Eloor is pending. Seats reserved for women in Thripunithura municipality, which has been extended by the addition of Thiruvankulam grama panchayat, will also be decided on August 30.

The selection of wards reserved for women, Scheduled Castes, and women belonging to Scheduled Castes in all the 84 panchayats in the district has been completed.

Of the total of 1,369 wards, 793 are reserved.

Of this 653 had been reserved for women, 84 for scheduled Castes, and 54 wards had been set apart for women from the scheduled castes.

Both the wards reserved for the Scheduled Tribes and women from the Scheduled Tribes in the district are in Kuttampuzha panchayat. While Manikandanchal, the seventh ward, has been reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, Aarattuchira, the fourth ward, has been allocated for Scheduled Tribes.
