A 26-year-old doctor met with a tragic end when the car he was travelling in collided head on with a truck laden with timber at Pulluvazhi near Perumbavoor around 1.15 a.m. on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Akash Thomas, son of T.T. Thomas and Susamma, and hailing from Kurichithanam, Kottayam.

He was travelling along with his parents to the airport to catch a flight to Australia when the accident happened. Both the parents suffered serious injuries in the accident. The two were rushed to a private hospital at Aluva where they are recuperating.

The police suspect the father, who was driving the car, might have dozed off, resulting in the vehicle veering off and ramming the truck coming from the opposite direction.

Akash, who was pursuing his higher studies in Germany, was bound for Australia to visit his brothers Ashish Thomas and Anand Thomas, who are settled there. The body was handed over to relatives after the post-mortem.
