True to its style of functioning, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited tenders for Kochi Metro’s civil works, within two days of the formal announcement that the agency would implement the project.
This is in keeping with its time-tested culture of adhering to the deadline, to prevent cost over-runs and hassles to members of the public, a DMRC official said.
The agency has invited tenders for constructing the elevated viaduct from Aluva up to the Jawaharlal Nehru international stadium in Kaloor and the 12 stations in the stretch.
Tenders have been invited for the following elevated stations – Aluva, Pulinchodu, Companypady, Ambattukavu, Muttom, Kalamassery, CUSAT, Pathadipalam, Edapally Junction, Changampuzha Park, Palarivattom and Jawaharlal Nehru international stadium in Kaloor. This would include the architectural finishing works of these stations.
The tender includes the construction of the connecting elevated viaduct and ramp to the coach-maintenance depot at Muttom in Aluva.
The DMRC had readied tender documents well in advance, in order to prevent wastage of time in preparing them afresh after it was entrusted with the metro’s implementation. Separate tenders will be invited for the civil works in the international stadium-Pettah stretch.
The metro will pass through the 25-km-long Aluva-M G Road-Tripunithura Pettah alignment.
“Our aim is to simultaneously carry out the works in different portions, so that the project can be completed within the three-year time frame,” the official said.
Pre-condition
The sole pre-condition is the timely handing over of funds and the land required for the project by the State government, he said. Over 40 hectares of land is required for locating the 22 metro stations, constructing the coach maintenance yard and to widen narrow roads to construct the viaduct.
