DMRC accords final clearance for coaches

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - KOCHI:

Having sorted out the differences over the specifications of coaches about two weeks ago, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Thursday gave the final clearance for the rolling stocks of Kochi Metro rail.

According to the Kochi Metro Rail Limited, the clearance was accorded in line with the discussions held between KMRL and DMRC with Alstom on January 16 and 17 in New Delhi.

“With this, all the impediments till date have been cleared, which will ensure timely delivery of the coaches by January 2016,” it said.

Though the Letter of Acceptance for rolling stock was issued in August 2014, the manufacturing clearance was not given to Alstom due to lack of convergence between DMRC, KMRL and Alstom on aspects like design, specifications and aesthetics.

The issue was resolved during a two-day marathon meet between representatives of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation with the manufacturer.

The manufacturer had initially set May 3, 2016 as the delivery date of the coaches though the DMRC insisted delivery at least by January so as to run the metro services in the first reach as planned by June 2016.
