The files of the controversial DLF Riverside Housing Project, Chilavannur, and two others have gone missing from the office of the Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) in Thiruvananthapuram.
While there was no trail available on the movement of the DLF files, there were entries in the Authority records regarding the movement of files of two other projects.
The curious case of missing DLF files assumes significance in the wake of the controversy the project had generated in the State.
Opposition charge
The State government had to cancel the environmental clearance (EC) for the project following opposition from the LDF members in the State Assembly.
Holding the government responsible for showing favouritism to the project, the Left legislators had also staged a walkout from the Assembly.
An investigation report by E.K. Bharat Bhushan, former Chief Secretary of the State and a subcommittee appointed by the KCZMA had reported that the building came up in violation of the CRZ guidelines.
The case of the missing files was reported at the KCZMA meeting by K.K. Ramachandran, the Member Secretary of the Authority, in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
The issue was included as an agenda of the meeting after some members demanded that it be recorded in the proceedings of the meeting, said Authority members.
No information
The Member Secretary also informed the meeting that though he had sent a request to V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, former chairman of the Authority seeking information on the files, he did not receive any reply. The issue was also reported to the State government. The Authority also requested the government to initiate suitable action in relation to the missing files, they said.
