The district panchayat budget has allocated Rs.10 lakh to give training in karate and yoga to selected women identified through Kudumbasree. This was one of the many projects targeting women and children in the budget.

Sanitary napkin vending units with a trade mark will be started in two block panchayats at an investment of Rs.1 crore.

The budget allocates Rs.70 lakh for setting up a counselling centre for teenage girls at the block level and Rs.50 lakh for opening 50 kiosks to enable women to sell products. Rs.50 lakh would be spent on buying vehicles for special schools and another Rs.25 lakh for improving infrastructure of Buds Schools (school for physically and mentally-challenged children).

Setting up a women garment production centre at Rs.30 lakh by giving three months training in tailoring to women from backward classes is another proposal. Toilet complexes will be set up at Adivasi colonies for which Rs.20 lakh had been allocated.

Steps will be taken to make all panchayats in the district child-friendly with the support of Unicef. The pilot project in this regard launched in Edathala panchayat will be expanded to all panchayats.

More grants will be allotted to orphanages. Steps will be taken to distribute 22 lakh kg of rice and 2.5 lakh kg of wheat or funds equivalent to that to orphanages, destitute and old age homes.
