Newly formed Idukki taluk inaugurated

The government has given top priority to distribution of land under the Zero Landless scheme. The date for accepting applications under the scheme has been extended, Minister for Revenue Adoor Prakash has said.

Inaugurating the newly formed Idukki taluk and the distribution of title deeds under the scheme, the Minister said a district adalat would be launched to address revenue-related problems faced by the people. A survey had revealed that there were over two lakh landless people in the State, he said.

The creation of the 12 new taluks would help in finding a solution to the issue in a speedy manner, Mr. Prakash said. The Kasturirangan report did not pose hurdles in the issue of condition-free title deeds, he said. Officials who hindered the process of finding a solution to the issue of title deeds would be penalised and those found rejecting the applications would be held accountable, he said.
