Devaswom Board employees caution against corruption

Travancore Devaswom Employees Confederation has alleged that the UDF government was trying to bring in an ordinance with the intention of capturing control of the Board’s administration.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, confederation president R Shaji Sharma and general secretary G Vasudevan Namboodiri said that in the normal case, one of the members to the Board would have been from the Opposition. The Ruling Front want to upset the equilibrium and wanted to bring the entire administrative structure under their wings through ordinance, they alleged.

The former LDF government had decided to entrust the Public Service Commission with the appointment to the Establishment Department of the Board. However, the UDF government, now in power, was trying to establish a Recruitment Board in its place. This would pave way for rampant corruption in appointments to the Board, they alleged.

The Confederation leaders also wanted the government the hike the share of annual grant to the Board. The confederation will launch a jatha stressing the demands from June 19, they said. The valedictory function will be inaugurated by Kodiyeri Balakrishnan MLA on June 27 at the Board headquarters, they said.
