Data bank on wetlands, paddy fields in district to be prepared

District Collector M. Beena has asked agriculture and revenue department officials to complete by the end of this month the survey works in connection with the preparation of a data bank of the paddy fields and wetlands in the district.

During a review meeting held recently, the Collector also asked the officials to complete the data entry works for the project by the end of next month.

The survey had to be completed jointly by the revenue and agriculture department officials.

Principal Agriculture Officer K.K. Moideen said that so far, survey had been completed in 17 villages.

Legislation

The Agriculture Officer had been entrusted with the task of reviewing the works related to the preparation of the data bank on a weekly basis.

He had also been entrusted with imparting necessary training in this connection to the officials concerned at the block level. The data bank was being prepared based on the legislation brought about by the State government for the conservation of paddy fields and wetlands.

The list of the members nominated to the committees formed at the regional levels to coordinate the works related to the preparation of the data bank had been submitted to the government for its approval.

Deputy Collector (Land Reforms) C.K. Eliamma, and assistant principal agriculture officer K.R. Vasanthy also attended the review meeting.
