The Dalit law student, who was raped and murdered at her house near Perumbavoor on April 28, used to sleep with a knife kept below her pillow, as she feared for her life.
This finds mention in an inquest report prepared by the police, after they discovered a knife, which was found hidden under her pillow.
The victim’s elder sister said two Malayali construction workers had threatened to eliminate her sister and her mother a few months ago when they questioned their “bad behaviour”. The workers were engaged in the construction of their new house, she said. Denying media reports, she said she had no migrant-labourer friend who had gone missing and for whom the police were reportedly on the lookout. “I can’t speak proper Hindi,” she told media persons on Sunday.
Neighbour in custody
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team probing the case took a neighbour of the victim into custody from Bangalore on Sunday. He is being questioned. He too had gone missing after the murder.
The police have prepared a new sketch of the suspect, based on the description given by an eyewitness who claimed to have seen an unidentified person under mysterious circumstances near the victim’s house on the day the crime was committed.
