An indigenously-built cutter suction dredger, built at the New Industrial Development Area at Kanjikode in Palakkad by the Kottayam-based Agritex, is being shipped from the Kochi port to Indonesia.

Cutter suction dredgers are non-propelled floating platforms capable of dredging out sand silt and other materials and discharging dredged materials to designated areas through pipes. They can dredge up to a depth of 12 metres.

“The dredger being exported has a capacity to dredge out minimum 400 cubic metre of solids and can discharge the material in the form of slurry up to a distance of 1.5 km,” said Kuriakose Philip of Agritex. He said the dredger was indigenously-built, without using imported parts or machinery, with performance and quality at par with international standards.
