Cochin University of Science and Technology’s Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering is on cloud nine these days.
It has bagged the ‘A1’ grade in the Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) of the Directorate General of Shipping, which is applicable to all institutes conducting pre-sea training programmes based on prescribed guidelines.
Various factors, including infrastructure maintenance; faculty and human resource development; student development programmes; onboard training records; and overall performance and management stability were assessed as part of the inspection. The School won 90 per cent and above in the rating process.
The A1 rating also gives the institute a green-channel opportunity while applying for new courses. Senior faculty members pointed out that they have no immediate plans to seek a new course. The School now runs B.Tech and M. Tech courses in Marine Engineering.
Cusat Vice Chancellor J. Letha received the certificate from Mahua Sarkar, Deputy Director General of Shipping, at a function held at the school on Tuesday.
